Papers of Jose Manuel Escajeda [manuscript], 1918-2010.

The collection contains 14 photographs of Escajeda, both in private life and in the service including one with his ambulance and one in a shell hole; a copy of a photograph of [one of his sisters?]; his honorable discharge/enlistment record; and miscellaneous news clippings regarding his career, particularly World War II service in the Intelligence Division of the 4th Army. A letter, 1918 June 23, to his sister, mentions his friend Shorty Howlett, and the unit dog "Ici" who is gun shy. He describes his quarters in a linen mill cellar and a barn, hopes to send a German officer's automatic pistol to his father, recommends "The country that just waited," by Catherine Van Dyke and "My home in the field of honor" [by Frances Wilson Huard] as having good descriptions of where he has been stationed, mentions plans for leave, asks for mail, and hopes "Fritz" doesn't get him. Eighteen postcards to his family in El Paso, Tex., from various French cities including Aix-les-Bains, Longperrier, Lyon, Pauillac, and Trompeloup, describe the scenes depicted. There is also one postcard from Major R. F. Burges. Also contains two clippings about El Paso history. A CD-Rom of the pictures is included.
